Teledyne Scientific & Imaging is comprised of five Teledyne companies that produce approximately $150M in annual revenue. Teledyne Scientific Company is one of the largest private research laboratories in the United States, specializing in materials, optics, mixed signal devices, and information science solutions for a variety of government, commercial, and internal clients. Teledyne Imaging Sensors and its three subsidiaries provide advanced imaging solutions for multiple government and commercial clients. Teledyne sensors reside on the Hubble space telescope as well as on the majority of NASA space probes and ground based telescopes. Teledyne sensors are also integrated into several major defense systems for persistent surveillance, chemical detection, and target identification, among others.
The successful Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will be a key member of the EH&S team and will have direct interaction with and support of the manufacturing and facilities groups among others. This position will provide leadership, direction and training with respect to EH&S functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / CAPABILITIES: • Supports EH&S functions within Teledyne Scientific & Imaging (TS&I) • Implements effective Environmental, Health & Safety Program aspects • Performs incident investigations, Root Cause Analyses and management of incident database • Administers effective EH&S training programs (material preparation and presentation), including new employee safety orientation • Maintains and updates computer training software systems and databases • Conducts internal audits of lab, Shop & Clean Room areas; manages audit databases • Conducts inspections with regulatory agencies; maintains appropriate documentation • Maintains files and records related to EH&S programs • Maintains regulatory agency compliance and management of all permits and licenses • Prepares and/or reviews Environmental, Health & Safety permit applications with associated reporting and correspondence • Manages environmental, industrial hygiene, safety and health monitoring and sampling • Analyzes government regulations, local, state and federal/requirements for impact on new and existing operations and policies and procedures • Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with internal and external customers • Updates department policies and procedures and contractual documents, including research of current regulations and laws • Participates in special projects, as needed
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS: • Five year’s work experience preferred in industrial, manufacturing or a research & development facility in a multiple facility environment in state of California • Knowledge of chemistry and physics required • Certified Safety Professional, also training in Lasers and Radiation Safety, preferred • Ability to identify and evaluate occupational exposures to harmful substances and make recommendations for control or elimination of hazards in accordance with OSHA requirements • Have demonstrated knowledge of life safety regulations and ability to relate these to all operations • Able to possess or obtain all necessary certifications relating to hazardous material handling and DOT operations • Conduct audits/reviews/evaluating compliance with environmental programs: air issues, solid waste management (RCRA) and CERCLA and the Clean Water • Experience with and preparation of reports • Proficient computer skills • Able to organize and coordinate projects and team activities • Strong oral and written communication abilities with all levels of management, employees, and customers • Apply a comprehensive knowledge to the completion of complex assignments. Directly contribute to the development of new concepts and techniques. • Perform assignments that are complex in nature. • Develop solutions to a variety of complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation • Perform work without appreciable management direction. Exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment • Maintain substantial contact, both leveraging knowledge of customer’s operations/business and recognizing and following through on opportunities in new areas and/or with new customers. Serve as consultant and external spokesperson for the organization on major matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives • Advanced computer proficiency level using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) • Willing to work in potentially hazardous environments with unpleasant conditions • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment but has frequent visits to laboratories and multiple facilities; must provide own motorized transportation to multiple facilities • Consistently displays exemplary ethics and business conduct and performs work cognizant of safe work practices
EDUCATION: • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Environmental, Health & Safety or related equivalent
