This Storage Area Network Product Manager position is a part Teledyne LeCroy's Protocol Solution Group based in Santa Clara, CA.
General Purpose of the Position:
As the SAN Product Manager you are responsible for product positioning, explaining technical concepts and articulating business benefits to the executive staff, architects, designers, support professionals and end users as part of your customer and channel partner facing responsibility. You are part of the Product Development Team and report to the Vice President of Marketing. Your additional responsibilities include; defining short and long-term strategic goals, helping build key customer relationships, identifying business opportunities, projecting future product line revenues, helping negotiate and close business deals and maintaining extensive knowledge of current market conditions
You are also looked at as “the technical product manager” and will be called on to represent your products in virtually all forum types. As part of executive briefings, conferences, trade shows and customer visits/calls you not only convey knowledge but also aggregate direct customer feedback for overall product innovation and roadmap down to the level where your detailed input distills into market requirements documents. The sales force relies on you and the whitepapers, presentations and demos you create to get smart about both your products and storage area networking (SANs). Your ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear, concise and easy to understand way helps the overall training effort for internal solutions architects, systems engineers, channel partners and end customers. Technical understanding in adjacent areas allows you to go beyond “just” storage area networking and application centric networking, which you can discuss fluently with marketing teams, engineering and customers. A view of the competitive landscape will help you position the product more effectively. Your input to engineering is key to usability, design flexibility and integration.
You get to contribute in all stages of the product lifecycle. From defining product requirements to the design stage, getting “hands on” with early code, helping customers through beta programs, releasing the product for general availability all the way to transitioning customers to new releases.
As a Product Manager you will have significant influence of product direction while simply being looked at as “the expert”.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Managing the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities through end of life scenarios’. • Develop market requirement documents that specify market requirements for current and future products utilizing current market knowledge and by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers. • Developing and implementing a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute. • Analyzing potential partner relationships for the product. • Create deep technical content including data sheets, presentations, whitepapers and videos that showcase the products and their value proposition. • Communicate the value proposition of your products to both the LeCroy sales team and our channel partners. • Have overall responsibility for launch strategy and fully execute launch’s of new products and releases. • Responsible for competitive intelligence research and document creation. • Ability to operate and maintain a functional product lab as well as a competitive lab. • Interact with all other internal teams as needed to provide technical and market insight. • Staff company booth at various industry trade shows, seminars and other events. • Perform live demonstrations of products as needed to support sales initiatives. • Willing to travel, as necessary
Education, Skills & Experience:
• Extensive knowledge of SAN and datacenter infrastructure including switching, routing, server load balancing, security and other services is a plus. • Experience driving product marketing efforts for a high growth product line • Demonstrated ability to create highly compelling product marketing collateral • Effective spokesperson skills engaging small and large customer groups • Proven ability to effectively communicate to engineers, sales team and management with flexibility to adapt the discussion based on audience and personalities. • Ability to translate technology features into business benefits • Ability to multitask, change priorities rapidly and work under pressure • Minimum 5 years work experience in product marketing preferably in storage area networking (SAN), enterprise networking or datacenter. • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree is required
