Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education, Experience and Skills:
 
• Bilingual in Mandarin and English
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in a fast-paced Product Development environment, focused in steel and aluminum-type products
• Proficient in SolidWorks CAD software
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and familiarity with GD&T principles and practices
• Experience working in a “Lean”, “Design for Lean Sigma (DFLS)” or “Six-Sigma” environment

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge and experience in wheel design or manufacturing
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA), preferably with CosmosWorks / SolidWorks Simulation
• Background with MS Project software
• Material property understanding, primarily based around steel and aluminum

Job Description:

The New Product Development R&D Engineer reports to the R&D Engineering Manager – Wheels, within a manufacturing facility located in Ontario, California. The department designs wheels across five market segments: passenger vehicles, agriculture and construction equipment, power sports (ATV / UTV), high speed trailer and outdoor power equipment (Lawn and garden care equipment, golf carts and other low-speed vehicles). The position needs to understand domestic and international wheel manufacturing and sourcing operations in sufficient detail to recommend any required design changes to manufacture wheel products for any targeted application or fitment. Additionally, the person will be required to design wheel parts and/or assemblies in CAD, as well as communicating design details internally, to suppliers and/or to customers. Lastly, this position will drive the development of NPD projects by using scheduling and project management skills to influence the on-time completion of NPD deliverables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Create parametric 3D CAD models and assemblies
• Generate, review, and approve detail drawings for production
• Drive assigned projects through a DFLS Phase-Gate process, including leading design review meetings and obtaining approvals to facilitate new product launches
• Perform project management duties, such as scheduling, planning tooling development and working with internal and external suppliers and customers to support NPD launch goals
• Control product costs and design-in cost efficiency (design for manufacturability)
• Utilize computer tools to optimize the design of parts (FEA) and correlated test results
• Arrange for tooling and equipment purchases as needed
• Communicate with suppliers regarding the details of styling, design, logistics, timing, packaging and production
• Travel domestically and internationally on occasion
• Lead and attend teleconference meetings with international suppliers and/or customers during hours that may fall outside a normal 8-5 workday (generally in early evening, but possibly at other times as well)
• Become knowledgeable in the technical aspects of wheel design, including such topics as materials, castings, welding, stamping, stress analysis
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Utilize computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and other software applications used for development

Work Schedule: M-F, 1st Shift and peak times as needed
